Saphan Jai Festival

Saphan Jai (Heart Bridge) was organized to showcase the InSIGHT Out! photography exhibition and to encourage public speaking and performance by children in the project. Saphan Jai comprised two events in Khao Lak and Phuket:I. Exhibition Opening and Live Concert, 30 December, Khao Lak The opening of the exhibition on 30 December was marked by a free public concert by the nationally known Thai band, Nga Caravan and the European rock group The Durgas, dance performances by children, a slide show of InSIGHT Out! Photos, and a mime performance by Mr. Loop, Ulrich Gottlieb.

Audience: More than 600 people attended the concert and festival including children and adults from the Phang Nga community and tourists visiting Khao Lak.The event took place in an outdoor plaza at the recently openedKhao Lak Youth Club on the main road. Saphan Jai was planned in partnership with the Phuket Aquarium and with support from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) which printed full color posters and flyers and the Phuket Gazette which provided media coverage in their weekly newspaper and a promotional video spot shown on closed circuit television in participating hotels.

The event aimed to draw a larger audience for the photo exhibition and stage show including adults and children from communities in the Khao Lak area and Burmese migrant families allof whom were provided transportation to the event. The festival highlighted the photography exhibition and stage show by children and created a fun event for children from Thai-Buddhist, Thai-Muslim. Thai-Moken and Burmese migrant communities.
